Save, recover, and export your work

Mind Map Studio saves map changes automatically. There is no manual Save button for the canvas. Keep the tab open until Atlassian Cloud confirms the change.

Understand the save status

On wider screens, the current map's save status appears in the header. A recovery banner appears on the canvas when a draft needs your attention.

StatusWhat it meansWhat to do
SavedThe active map changes were confirmed by Atlassian Cloud. You can safely continue, change maps, or close the page.
UnsavedA change is waiting to be sent.Keep the tab open and wait.
Saving…Mind Map Studio is sending the change and waiting for confirmation.Keep the tab open and do not reload.
OfflineCloud saving is unavailable. If no draft is pending, you are viewing the last confirmed cloud version.Reconnect before editing further.
Not saved — offlineRecent changes exist only in this tab.Keep the tab open and reconnect, or discard the draft.
Save failedAtlassian Cloud did not confirm the current draft.Use the recovery action shown in the banner.

Only Saved confirms that the active map change reached Atlassian Cloud.

Work safely when the app is offline

Mind Map Studio does not keep a durable offline copy of your map.

  • If you go offline before making a change, editing is paused and the last confirmed cloud version remains visible.
  • If a change was already waiting or saving, its draft remains only in the current tab and may be lost if the tab closes.
  • Keep the same tab open and restore your connection. A draft that was waiting to save resumes when the app detects that it is online again. If Retry save appears, select it after reconnecting.
  • Wait for Saved before reloading, changing maps, or closing the tab.

Select Discard draft only when you accept losing the unsaved changes.

Retry a failed save

When the recovery banner offers Retry save:

  1. Check that you are online.
  2. Select Retry save.
  3. Keep the tab open until the status becomes Saved.

The retry sends the same retained draft. If retry fails again, keep the tab open and use the error information when asking for help.

Discard an unsaved draft

Discarding a draft cannot be undone.

  1. Review the visible map and confirm that you no longer need the unsaved changes.
  2. Select Discard draft in the recovery banner.

Mind Map Studio restores the last version that this tab received from Atlassian Cloud.

If Discard draft is temporarily unavailable, wait for the current save attempt to finish.

Resolve a cloud-version conflict

Cloud version changed means a newer revision was saved elsewhere while your tab still had a draft. Mind Map Studio stops editing rather than overwriting that newer version.

  1. If you need a visual record of the local draft, export it as a PNG before continuing. A PNG cannot be imported back into the map.
  2. Select Discard draft & reload.
  3. Wait for the latest cloud version to open.
  4. Reapply any needed changes.

Mind Map Studio does not merge simultaneous edits. Avoid editing the same map in more than one browser tab or editing session at the same time.

Recover after a rejected draft

If the banner explains that the server rejected the draft and Retry save is not available:

  1. Review or export the current draft if you need a record of it.
  2. Select Discard draft & reload.
  3. Continue from the last cloud-confirmed version.

Export the map as a PNG

  1. Open the map you want to export.
  2. Arrange, expand, or collapse its branches as needed.
  3. If you want a neutral view, clear search, progress, and relationship focus, then select an empty part of the canvas to remove the selected-idea outline.
  4. Open More actions in the map header.
  5. Select Export as PNG.
  6. Wait for Exported high-resolution PNG and the browser download.

The file name is based on the central idea. PNG is the only available export format in this release.

The export fits all currently visible ideas into the image, regardless of the current zoom level. Relationship labels shown on visible connections are included in the PNG. Editing controls and connection handles are omitted.

Export a focused view

The exported PNG reflects the view in the current tab:

  • Descendants hidden inside a collapsed branch are not included.
  • An active progress filter preserves the focused and dimmed appearance. It does not remove the nonmatching ideas, and a status suffix is added to the file name.
  • Search, relationship focus, and other highlight effects can remain visible in the image.
  • The currently selected idea keeps its blue selection outline in the image.

Clear filters, expand branches, and deselect the current idea before exporting if you want the complete, neutral map.

An export can include a draft that has not reached Atlassian Cloud. Wait for Saved first if the PNG must match the stored map.

Fix an export problem

If the export does not download:

  1. Wait until Exporting… disappears.
  2. Confirm that the map contains at least one visible idea.
  3. Allow downloads for the Jira site in your browser.
  4. Select Export as PNG again.

If Mind Map Studio shows Export failed. Please try again, keep the map open and retry once. Use the normal support option if it continues to fail.
